Penalty Shootout 2026
Penalty Shootout 2026 is a swipe-to-shoot football game wrapped around a full knockout tournament. You choose one of 48 national sides, a 16-team bracket is drawn around you, and you play a single tie per round: last sixteen, quarter-final, semi-final, final. Each tie is a shootout that runs both ways — five penalties against their goalkeeper, and five of theirs with you between the posts.
Shooting is one upward swipe traced from the ball. Where the stroke finishes is where you are aiming, how quickly you drew it sets the power, and any bow you put into it bends the ball away from the line it launched along. That last part is the heart of the game, because the keeper commits to a corner before the ball arrives: a straight shot into his corner is smothered, while a curling one leaves along his line and lands somewhere else entirely.
Defending flips everything around. The opposing striker runs up, and a flick of your finger left or right throws your keeper that way. Rounds get harder by trimming his reaction time rather than by letting him cheat, and a tie that is level after five kicks each drops into sudden death, one pair at a time, until somebody blinks. A tie takes about a minute; the four rounds to the trophy fit in one sitting.
How to play Penalty Shootout 2026
A match alternates between the two ends: you take a penalty, then you try to save one. Outscore your opponent across five each and you go through.
- Choose your nation from the menu — it sets your kit colours and puts you into the draw — then start the championship.
- On your kick, press below the goal and swipe upward towards the spot you want to hit. The end of the swipe is your aim point.
- Swipe faster for a harder shot; a slow stroke gives the keeper time to get right across his line.
- Bow the stroke instead of drawing it straight. The keeper reads the line you launched along, so a curved swipe puts the ball to one side of his dive.
- Take the kick before the timer bar at the top of the screen empties, or the game rolls a weak effort down the middle on your behalf.
- When you are in goal, swipe left or right as the striker runs up. Choosing the correct side of the goal is what makes the save.
- Win the shootout to advance a round; lose it and your tournament is over.
Tips and strategy
- The keeper picks his corner by chance and never looks at your aim, so there is nothing to out-guess. Placement and pace are the only things that beat him.
- The very top corners are the safest targets. A diving keeper covers a tall band around his chosen corner, so you beat him by going to an extreme rather than merely to the other side.
- Curl comes from the bow of the swipe, not from where it ends. Aim into the middle and bend the stroke hard and the ball leaves where he expects but arrives where he is not.
- Pace is worth as much as placement: a fast, well-placed ball can beat even a correct guess, because it crosses the line before the dive finishes.
- In goal, only your left-or-right choice decides the save, so commit early rather than trying to read the flight of the ball.

Frequently asked questions
How do I bend the ball?
Draw a curved swipe rather than a straight one. The game measures how far your stroke bowed away from a straight line between its start and its end, and turns that into sideways curl on the ball.
Does the goalkeeper know where I am aiming?
No. His dive is decided in advance and never inspects your swipe. He is beaten by shots he cannot physically reach in time, which is why pace and extreme placement work while double-bluffing does not.
What happens if the shootout is level after five kicks each?
It goes to sudden death. You each take one more penalty, repeatedly, and the first pair in which one of you scores and the other does not settles the tie.
Can I be knocked out?
Yes — the tournament is single elimination, so losing any tie ends your run. The rest of the bracket plays itself out and one of the simulated sides lifts the trophy instead.
Which languages does it support?
Six: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Italian. It follows your browser's language on the first visit, and the globe button on the menu changes it. Country names are left untranslated.
Are these real teams and players?
No. Sides are identified only by country name, flag and kit colours; there are no real players, clubs, badges or licensed competition branding anywhere in the game.
